Brynn Turns 2: Happy 2nd Birthday!
It’s been an interesting week around the house. Mom got sick on Monday night (her birthday, nonetheless) and was in bed most of the week. Esme got sick on Tuesday morning, got better on Wednesday, and then got sick again on Thursday. Oh, and we had a big snowstorm on Thursday, so school was closed Thursday and Friday. And Laura, our nanny, was sick on Thursday too. Brynn started catching whatever Esme had, and was a bit crabby probably between that and not leaving the house much this week. And Friday was her 2nd birthday, the party for which we were going to have on Saturday but we had to cancel because at bedtime on Friday night Brynn threw up all over herself. Final count: strep throat and ear infection for Leslie, strep throat for Esme, likely strep throat for Brynn (didn’t get her tested but it seems pretty likely). Dad survived relatively unscathed but a bit overwhelmed, though holding the title of “Iron Stomach” of the Hinyard-Lash household.
Anyway, because of all of that, we didn’t have too big of a celebration for Brynn’s birthday, obviously. Birthday dinner was at IHOP (Brynn wanted pancakes and it was the only thing that sounded good to Mom, who hadn’t eaten anything other than toast all week), and then Saturday we just stayed around the house and recuperated. Esme was upset that we had to cancel the party, so her and Dad went to Chuck E Cheese instead (this was before we got the official word that she had strep throat; we thought she was on the mend since she was acting/feeling better). We had already ordered the cake for 30+ people for the planned Saturday party, so we picked it up and had a little celebration at home with way more cake than we needed. Though we didn’t have anyone over, we did get to FaceTime with MiMi and PaPa while we lit the candles and sang to Brynn.
It was a bit of an odd week and an odd birthday-and-day-after, but it will certainly be a memorable one. We’ll reschedule the party for later once everyone is feeling better and we fumigate the house with antibiotics.
