Officially a New Englander
We’re having a great time on our trip to Cape Cod. We spent a few good days with Gigi and Grandpa, plus Aunt Steph and Uncle Dave and Cousin Ian. There are plenty of pictures which we’ll probably get around to posting this weekend, though we wanted to at least show a bit of what we’ve been up to for those going through Esme withdrawal.
Today, Esme officially became a New Englander. No, she didn’t have a Lobster Roll, or buy her first Red Sox t-shirt — she went candlepin bowling! What is candlepin bowling, you ask? Well, Wikipedia has more details than anyone needs to know, though it’s basically regular bowling with slimmer pins (candle-like, if you will) and smaller balls. There are a few other nuances, though those are the big differences. It’s a uniquely New England sport, and something Jeff remembers fondly from childhood. We figured it would be a good activity for Esme on this overcast day, what with small light balls that should be easy for an almost-two-year-old to handle. See how things turned out in this video…

I think candlepin bowling looks a little to easy for Esme. I think she is ready for the real wii bowling because she swings her arm like a real pro. Has she ever tried playing the wii games? At the rate she is going there will be very little she hasn’t tried by the time she is 4 or do you have some more challenges for her at that age???? She picks up the ball and walks to the line like a real pro and she throws the ball like great grandma Ellen and she is a championship wii bowler here at the Cypress.
