Happy Fakesgiving!
Yesterday we had our 5th annual Fakesgiving dinner. It started out when we were going to be out of town on Thanksgiving day itself, though still wanted to have the Thanksgiving experience. We invited a bunch of friends, all of whom happened to also not have any relatives in the St. Louis area. It was a Thanksgiving for “transplants” only, and given that it happened the day before Thanksgiving, the name Fakesgiving was born.
We enjoyed it so much that we decided to do it again next year, expanding the menu and guest list (yes, even including those with St. Louis roots), shifting from Wednesday night to Friday night. This year, since we have a growing contingent from the under-5 set, we decided to shift to Sunday afternoon to accommodate nap schedules.
It’s one of our favorite times of the year — a chance to break out the nice china and crystal (which only happens once or twice a year), try out some new dishes, and spend time with friends. We were excited for this year, our first in the new house. Leslie was joking when we were buying this house that one of the main reasons she liked it so much was because it would hold a big Fakesgiving crowd (at least Jeff thinks she was joking…)
This Fakesgiving didn’t disappoint — the final guest count topped out at 24 adults and 9 kids (hope we didn’t miss anyone). Thanks to everyone who was able to make it and contributed fantastic food and drink — Andrew, Sara, and Reis; Byron and Wendy; Nancy and Rowdy; Donna; Stephanie; Ben; Abbie and Joe; Brielle; Beth, Roo, and Joanna; Nino and Luka; Jason, Kelli, and Parker; Bob, Steph, Ben, and Libby; Denise, Stephen, Madeline, and Aubrey. We’re already looking forward to next year!
