Ozark Birthday Weekend
Jeff’s birthday was on Friday, and given that this was a big milestone (hint — it starts with a “t” and ends with an “rty”), we wanted to do something different and fun. Someone came up with the idea of renting a cabin and going away for the weekend, and it just seemed to be the right thing to do. With other birthdays around this season — Wendy in October, Andrew a week prior, Donna and Nancy and Sara in December, and Leslie’s big milestone in February — it was more of a friends weekend away than a weekend-long birthday party, per se.
Despite the questions some had about whether it would be a good idea to rent a cabin in the woods on Friday the 13th, we found a nice place with lots of room and headed out to Sunrise Beach, MO, right on the Lake of the Ozarks. It was about a 3.5 hour drive from St. Louis, which in retrospect seems like a bit of a long drive just to eat (since it seems like that’s all we did all weekend). If we weren’t eating, we were preparing to eat or cleaning up from it. Besides eating, our cabin boasted a wide variety of activities to keep the 11 adults and 4 kids entertained — puzzles, board games, mini golf, Wii, foosball, billiards, air hockey, table shuffleboard, ping pong, hot tub, sauna, and plenty of outdoor kids toys. Three days wasn’t enough to experience all of it — even if we were there for a week we probably wouldn’t have been able to try it all.
It was a great weekend, very fun and relaxing, and we hope to do this many more times in the coming years.
