Butterfly House
We’re always on the lookout for fun things to do with Esme on the weekend. With our work schedules, and her early bedtime (7pm, now moving to 7:30pm), it’s hard to get much quality family time in during the week. On the weekends, though, we have been good about setting aside as much time as possible to spend as a family. And if the weather is nice, and we can find something cheap (or free!), all the better.
Despite the leaves falling from the trees, the weather has not felt like early November, with the thermometer nearly hitting 80 this past weekend. We figured it was a good opportunity to take Esme to the Butterfly House, a very cool attraction highlighted by the huge enclosed space with hundreds (thousands?) of butterflies. Since it’s part of the Missouri Botanical Garden, of which we’re members (thanks GiGi and Grandpa Art!), we can go for free.
Our jaunt out to Chesterfield wasn’t perfect — Esme fell asleep in the car, so we had to try and keep her asleep so she got a good nape in; plus, the unseasonably warm weather made the butterfly dome a bit uncomfortable (reminder to visit on a nice cold winter day). Still, we had a great time — Esme chased after the butterflies a bit, then we walked over to the great playground in Faust Park and she had a great time there. Faust Park is also home to an historic carousel, and though Esme is a bit young to really appreciate it now, we’ll surely be back for many visits in the future.
