Almost walking
Before you have kids, you have this perception that the major developmental milestones just happen. One day they’re not crawling, the next day they’re crawling all over the place. One day they’re not talking, the next day they’re talking consistently. We’ve learned that it doesn’t happen this way. Take walking, for example. While Esme has been cruising around for a while now, and walking assisted for several weeks pretty well, we’re not sure when to declare that she’s actually “walking.” Does one step — followed immediately by a fall to the floor — count? What about two steps? Or do we need to wait until she can make it across the room to declare victory? We’re not sure where the fine line is between almost walking and actually walking, though we think she’ll be crossing it any day now…
Note: We’re trying a new way of showing videos here. The video quality should be a lot better, though it might take a bit longer for the video to load, or it may stop-and-start a few times. If you have problems, press play, then press pause once the video starts playing; wait a minute or two, and then play the rest of the video. Leave comments below on whether this type of video works better for you or not.

Nick summed it up well when he said “Esme is about 10 minutes away from walking”

You know what they say about – don’t fix something that isn’t broken! You techno experts always are trying to show off to us “elderly persons”. Since you want comments about your videoing – the old way was great! This intermittent video gets a little “fuzzy”. By the time we saw Esme taking her first solo flight are hearts were beating so quickly we almost couldn’t wait until the end – but there she was – taking her first solo steps in prefect sequence – one foot following the other. Her piano playing was a good start but before she finished her concerto she got the call from Mommy to “come over”. So you know what was the most important command of the day. It’s presumed the next video will show it all. Running around the room with a flag in her hand.
