Memorial Day weekend: Part 1

Sunday, May 24, 2009

It’s nice to enjoy a nice three-day Memorial Day weekend in our new house. With how busy we’ve been lately, we were looking forward to relax a bit, take care of stuff around the house, and hang out with friends.

Yesterday, The Harkonens (Beth, Roo, and Joanna) and Brielle came by to see the house and have a cookout lunch. Child nap schedules intervened, so our lunch turned into a long afternoon grazing session with some good entertainment provided by Joanna (~17 months) and Joanna.

We’re trying something new with pictures, so if you’re reading this in your email or RSS reader, you may want to visit the web site for the full “lightbox” effect. (You can also just go directly to the SmugMug gallery as well.) There’s also a video below — Joanna was sitting in Esme’s chair and Esme at first seemed a bit perturbed that Joanna was there. However, after a few minutes, we couldn’t tell whether Esme was upset at Joanna or just wanted to hang out with her; the most amusing part of the video (to us at least) is the fact that Joanna seems totally unphased by Esme’s strong overtures.

[Hmm, you should be seeing a video here. If you are reading this in your email or RSS reader, you need to go to the web site to view this video. If you are on the web site and seeing this message, download and install the Flash Player to see this video.]

I just remembered that we had some pictures from many months ago when Joanna was much younger. She’s gotten a lot bigger, though that mug is still the same!

It’s nice to see that Esme uses diplomacy and sharing skills. She doesn’t push Joanna, but rather engages in paralled play… “OK, Joanna, you can sit there, but I will play, too!” That’s the kid I want in my classroom! 🙂 Yay, Esme and Mom and Dad!
