6 months!
Wow, 6 months already. It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying our tiny little newborn (no, we don’t really remember what it was like B.E. — before Esme) and now she’s probably closer to toddler stage. Every day and week brings something new, and Esme takes it all in stride. This week especially it seems like she has really grown — toys which were previously out of reach from her little arms are now grabbed quickly and stuffed in her mouth; turning over from front to back was formerly a difficult and rare task, and now it happens quickly and frequently; babbling and smiling permeate every interaction with her. It’s amazing to think about what the next 6 months will be like. She had her 6 month checkup last week, and considering this is only the 6th time total we’ve had to go to the pediatrician, we’re pretty pleased. Esme is growing and developing well, in the 75th percentile for both height and weight. No news to report from the doctor’s visit, which is good news. Other than being a little upset when she got her vaccinations — who wouldn’t be? — it was fairly uneventful.
Here, as before, is the height and weight rundown, plus a commemorative picture and video from the half-birthday week:
- Birth; Saturday, August 2, 2008: 7lbs, 14oz.; 20″
- Hospital discharge; Tuesday, August 5, 2008: 7lbs, 7oz. (it’s normal for babies to lose some weight in their first few days)
- One week checkup; Monday, August 11, 2008: 8lbs, 9oz.
- One month checkup; Friday, September 5, 2008: 11lbs even; 21.75″
- Two month checkup; Tuesday, October 7, 2008: 13lbs, 1oz.; 23″
- Four month checkup; Tuesday, December 2, 2008: 15lbs, 7oz; 24.75″
- Six month checkup; Wednesday, February4, 2009: 17lbs, 9oz; 26.25″

The video is actually from Friday, February 6 (not the 7th). Daddy can’t keep track of the days when he’s traveling most of the week…

Congratulations and a happy first mid year best wishes for a continued long and healthy life. We’re going to print this picture and put it in the center of Esme’s collage, and I guess that will be the place to update Esme. Thanks you and the best of luck to you all.
