4-month weigh-in
Today was our 5th total visit to the pediatrician’s — not bad considering Esme turned 4 months old today! Plus, only one of those visits was “unscheduled” (a minor rash that we were not too worried about but decided to get checked anyway… and it turned out to be nothing), so we’ve been pretty lucky.
Of course, what you’re really waiting to hear about is how she’s been growing. Here’s the recap from before:
- Birth; Saturday, August 2: 7lbs, 14oz.; 20″
- Hospital discharge; Tuesday, August 5: 7lbs, 7oz. (it’s normal for babies to lose some weight in their first few days)
- One week checkup; Monday, August 11: 8lbs, 9oz.
- One month checkup; Friday, September 5: 11lbs even; 21.75″
- Two month checkup; Tuesday, October 7: 13lbs, 1oz.; 23″
- Four month checkup; Tuesday, December 2: 15lbs, 7oz; 24.75″
Mom and Dad were both expecting 16+lbs — maybe it’s just that carrying around a growing baby for several hours at a time makes her feel a lot heavier. Incidentally, she’s in between the 75th and 90th percentile for weight, and around the 50th percentile for height. So, she’s big, though not as off-the-charts big as she was before.
Otherwise, everything is good with Esme. She’s meeting all of her development milestones, she took her vaccines like a champ, and even the doctor commented on how strong she was. Other than battling a cold that she’s had for the past few days — not too uncommon, luckily not something too serious, though unfortunately something that may last another week or two — she’s in good shape.
Next checkup is two months from now — hopefully we won’t be at the doctor’s again until then!

Leslie and Jeff, Thanks so much for keeping us updated on dear, little Esme. It is such fun to read your blog and to see the video clips. What a cutie–and a good, healthy one too!! We are so thrilled for you all, and it sure seems that parenthood agrees with you both. Have fun! Mary and George Wilson 🙂

Good news is always good to hear. I think by her one year birthday we will be buying Esme some boxing gloves. By then she will probably be dominating the Hinyard-Lash household. It must be that the parents are doing everything right. Keep it up!

I had to get on here and tell you the good news! Esme is no longer the “big girl” in play group! Lillie went from 13,7 at three months to 15,11 at 4 months!!! She’s gained 143 ounces since birth (in 122 days)!
