Our first night out without Esme
This past Saturday was a momentous occasion — our first night out without Esme. We’ve had other people watch Esme for short periods of time — a bunch of relatives tag-teamed when they were out visiting for Esme’s naming ceremony — but this was the first planned adult outing. We were celebrating Wendy’s birthday with dinner with friends at the Newstead Tower Public House.
Our friends Bob and Steph were kind enough to offer to babysit, so Esme spent the evening with them and their 18-month-old Ben. Luckily, Esme behaved well enough that we’re still friends with Bob and Steph, and they were even able to get her to take a bit from a bottle and entertain herself with a pacifier for a few minutes. We had a great time at dinner, though when everyone else headed down the street to The Gramophone, we called it a night, not wanting to push it too much on our first time out sans baby.
All in all, things worked out well, and though it wasn’t fun leaving her, it’s good to know that she can behave when others are watching her.
