Escaping arms
Common wisdom is to “swaddle” your baby, to give them a womb-like feeling. Esme seems to enjoy this most of the time, though often it seems like the main benefit is to give her something to keep her occupied — try to get her arms out. She never really kicks her legs, though she will struggle with all might to get one (or both) of those arms out. When she does, the successful arm is often raised over her head in the “baby power” pose.
While swaddling her at night usually works well — once she’s asleep she doesn’t try to escape — we’ve recently tried just swaddling the rest of her and letting her arms go free to see what happens. Based on how calm she was the other night, this seems to be working:
